The FAXALERT program is a crime prevention information network providing a rapid electronic communications link between the Oakland Police Department and Oakland's business community.
Oakland's business community can use the FAXALERT program in a number of ways:
First, the FAXALERT network can be used by police to rapidly distribute important crime information to potentially hundreds of businesses almost simultaneously. Distribution can be based on the area in which a crime is committed or on the type of business targeted as the victim.
Second, the FAXALERT network can be used by businesses to report suspicious activity.
Third, the FAXALERT network can be used the Commercial Security Unit, the Crime Prevention Division, and other police units to provide participating Oakland businesses with crime prevention information on a regular basis.
Fourth, the FAXALERT network permits participating businesses to communicate with other businesses in their group.
FAXALERT is a component of the Merchants' Alert and Business Alert programs and is available to any business with fax capabilities.
Registration forms are available from the Commercial Security Unit at 777-8573 and from the Oakland Commerce Corporation at 632-1238.
