Through the Neighborhood Watch program (formerly known as Home Alert) the Oakland Police Department provides crime prevention education to concerned citizens who want to reduce crime in their neighborhoods.
These citizens work together in partnership with the police. By employing the crime prevention techniques provided to them, concerned citizens can improve their quality of life in the entire community.
Neighborhood Watch groups identify early on what their community standards should be.
An old Neighborhood Watch saying is, "A community will only have as much crime as it will tolerate."
Are crack houses OK? Not on my block!
We have all heard about the negative pressures that push people toward crime. A Neighborhood Watch group working together can produce positive pressures that make it difficult for criminals to work.
