Security Planning Assistance is used to address special situations or concerns and may require coordinated participation from Patrol Units, Crime Prevention officers, Beat Health, the Commercial Security Unit, Neighborhood Services Coordinators, and/or other police units as well as the cooperation of the businesses involved.

One example of Security Planning Assistance involved attacks against delivery trucks arriving at liquor stores and markets in various locations in Oakland.

The project involved the Commercial Security Unit, Crime Analysis, and Patrol Units and included meetings with a variety of delivery companies, labor representatives, and market and liquor store owners.

Changes were made in methods of payment, and procedures for assessing threatening conditions at delivery sites were clarified.

The result was a total stop of assaults and thefts committed against delivery drivers at locations where problems previously existed.
