In 2003, Police Service Area 2 experienced a wave of violence in the Shattuck Corridor that involved a number of murders and shootings in Berkeley and Oakland.
The Crime Reduction Team worked with the Berkeley Police Department to identify and target offenders in the conflict and arrest the key players.
Crime Reduction Team Members and Patrol forces have successfully implemented the Chief's focused enforcement plan in North Oakland. Our Focused Enforcement locations have resulted in a significant drop in murders and other crime.
Crime Reduction Team Members have continued to perform at a high level, conducting many specialized operations: robbery decoy and surveillance, burglary surveillance, narcotic buy-bust, prostitution sweeps, and other decoy operations.
The Problem Solving Officers and Neighborhood Services Coordinators work as two–person teams to attend each Neighborhood Crime Prevention Council meeting and to effectively work with community members to identify neighborhood priorities and achieve neighborhood goals.
