In the fall of 2003, Police Service Area 3 identified two "target zones" for Chief Word's Violence Reduction Plan. Increased patrols and operations were focused along 21st Avenue and along Foothill Boulevard.
As a collective result, 100 offenders were arrested, 259 citations were issued, 11 firearms were recovered, and 20 cars were towed.
PSA 3 also introduced the District Three Informer. This weekly newsletter was established to provide information and directives to all personnel within the PSA 3 command as well as to other support/patrol units in the Department.
Weekly, officers receive such information as the names and addresses of recently released parolees on their beat, Drug Hot Line calls, Beat Order assignments, and other information vital to their patrol duties.
An edited copy of the District Three Informer is distributed at NCPC meetings in three languages, English, Spanish, and Chinese.
