Phone, Mail, and FAX Reports
Telephone, mail, and FAX reports are part of the Department's program to provide more convenient methods for reporting certain types of crime.
To make a phone, mail, or FAX report, call the non-emergency telephone number, 510-777-3333. A dispatcher will take some information about the crime you are reporting and your call back information.
This information will be forwarded to the Report Writing Unit, and a report writer will call you back to make the report.
Some types of crimes for which a telephone report can be made are listed below:
•     Auto burglary
•     Theft of cell phone
•     Lost or stolen property
•     Grand theft when not from the person
•     Animal bite reports when whereabouts of the animal is unknown
•     Harassing or annoying telephone calls
•     Bad check restitution    
Crimes for which a mail or FAX report can be made are listed below:
•     Lost property
•     Misdemeanor vandalism when not the result of attempted burglary or        theft
•     Supplemental reports
•     Petty theft
Alternative Reporting Statistics
Personnel assigned to report writing duties completed a total of 6,475 phone reports for 2003, a decrease of 12.6% over 2002. A total of 11,688 mail reports were submitted from citizens, an increase of 14.9% from 2002. Citizens reporting crimes by FAX decreased 17.6% for a total of 3,124 for the year. Utilizing these three reporting methods saved a total of 1,330 personnel work days for the Bureau of Field Services.
