Park Ranger Mission Statement |
---
The mission of the Rangers is to improve the quality and safety of the parks in Oakland for the enjoyment of the community and to serve as a resource to park patrons. This will be accomplished through professional, courteous, and competent service and the utilization of creative and ethical crime prevention/problem solving practices. |
General Information
The Oakland Park Rangers are comprised of peace officers employed by the City of Oakland. The unit operates under the community policing philosophy, responding to the needs of its customer, the patrons and employees of the parklands.
Park Rangers use vehicles, bicycles, and dual-purpose motorcycles to accomplish their duties. They are responsible for over one-hundred-and-fifty parks, buildings, and open spaces. Employed as a unit within the Oakland Police Department, the Park Rangers have access to state–of-the-art investigative tools and support.
Volunteer Program
The mission of the Rangers Section Volunteer Program is to improve the quality and safety of the parks and promote park and recreation facility use.
Volunteers identify problems within the parks and assist with programs and enforcement efforts designed to eliminate those problems. Duties include Citizens on Patrol, Bicycle Patrol, Mounted Patrol, Field Office Representative, and Special Events.
If you are interested in participating in the Ranger Section Volunteer Program, visit a Ranger Station or call 482-7888.
Park Watch
The City of Oakland is asking those who live in neighborhoods near parks to keep a watchful eye open for vandalism and suspicious activities and to alert the Rangers when such activities are taking place.
