The Youth Citizen Police Academy is offered at participating Oakland high schools.
Classes run for one hour for fourteen consecutive weeks.
Classes are held at the participating high school and are available to students in grades nine thorough twelve.
The Youth Citizen Police Academy is designed to accomplish the following goals:
Encourage and enhance students' understanding of police operations.
Enhance students' awareness of the Department's rules, capabilities, and limitations.
Build trust and cooperation between the Department and community youth.
Provide a forum for a dialogue between Department and community youth.
Inform students about criminal law, police patrol procedures, search and seizure, narcotics, crime prevention techniques, and use of force policies.
