
The Youth Citizen Police Academy is offered at participating Oakland high schools. |
| Classes run for one hour for fourteen consecutive weeks. |
| Classes are held at the participating high school and are available to students in grades nine thorough twelve. |
| The Youth Citizen Police Academy is designed to accomplish the following goals: |
| Encourage and enhance students' understanding of police operations. |
| Enhance students' awareness of the Department's rules, capabilities, and limitations. |
| Build trust and cooperation between the Department and community youth. |
| Provide a forum for a dialogue between Department and community youth. |
| Inform students about criminal law, police patrol procedures, search and seizure, narcotics, crime prevention techniques, and use of force policies. |
